Killing Christmas

There are plenty of Scrooges this time of year. A family in Massiveclueless received an anonymous letter from a neighbor critical of their Christmas display.
Lots of folks are too chicken to even say Merry Christmas any more. That cowardice extends to the U.S. Post Office. I was in the local one today, and observed that one of their posters showed four available stamps. One with a Gingerbread house, one with a poinsettia, one that proclaimed Hanukkah, and one for Kwanza. Neither of the Christmas ones had Christmas on them. How chicken shit can you get? Kwanza isn't offensive. Hanukkah is just fine, but to celebrate the birth of the Savior? They are deeply offended.
But its not offense that drives them, its guilt. They do not care that fools bow down and bang their heads to the arabian moon god. They are ok with made up holidays like kwanza, but mention the Word made flesh, and they fly into a rage! Guilt! GOD has hardened their hearts just as he did the heart of Pharaoh in Egypt.
Yes, I know that the early church co opted the pagan festival of the winter solstice.  Big hair deal. People like festive occasions, and turning a ritual from evil to good is never a bad thing.
So while you are wrapping presents, remember the greatest gift of all, the gift of salvation that comes only, ONLY through the birth death and resurrection of Jesus the Messiah.
Tonight marks the end of the advent season in the church calender, but we are still in the real advent season as we await his return in glory.
Come oh blessed ransom come, only hope for sinful mortals.
Come oh Savior of the world, open are to you all portals.
Come your beauty let us see, anxiously we wait for thee.

May GOD bless each of you this night. And for you pagans, may it drive you insane. Oh wait, you are! The Word of GOD says the crazy person says in his heart there is no GOD.

Part of the reason is guilt. Most of these people know they live sinful lives. They know it and it makes them uncomfortable to think about it. By trying to supress Christmas they can supress the guilt for their behaviour.
