The clock now says we have rounded the corner to a new day, one on which we celebrate the Birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The good news has been spread to every part of the globe. During the ensuing 2,000 years the Bible has been translated into nearly every language. Wars have been fought over it, many people have died for it. Efforts have been made to revise it, and in many cases, it has been perverted from the truth preached by Jesus and his disciples.
Some like to claim the Bible is an adaptation of various other religions. That is not the case. Parts of the Bible story are truths known to people besides the writers of scripture. The story of creation, and the flood are part of the history of every person on the planet. Therefore, the things preserved in Scripture are also known to the ancestors of even the most far flung people. Along with that, the penalty of sin and the need for a Savior are also evident. Many religions have conjured their own.
Some groups have long forgotten their history. I can relate to that. I have a brother who can name every member of our family from the day they got off the boat. I am lucky to remember grandpa's first name. If I relied on oral history, my genealogy would start with me.
Today Christmas is known to nearly every person on the planet. We exchange gifts, we gather together, we have a meal and enjoy the companionship of those we hold most dear. And in the midst of that, too many forget that Jesus is the reason for the season.
Maker and Monarch and Savior of all. Remember Christ this Christmas. Not only is he the reason for the season, he is the reason we exist.
